Robert Stephenson-Padron, MSc
Care Manager & Managing Director

Robert-StephensonMr. Padron is a healthcare industry expert and former public servant. Prior to starting Penrose Care in 2012, he was a healthcare research analyst at Merrill Lynch (2010-12), which he joined from Barclays Capital/Barclays PLC (2007-10). From 2003-2006, he served as a commissioner of the City of Berkeley, USA. Mr. Padron also worked for a number of years as a research assistant to eminent epidemiologist Prof. Alison Galvani of Yale University. In 2014, Mr. Padron was named the UK’s Most Outstanding Leader in the Care Sector [acceptance speech] for his pioneering work on establishing Penrose Care, the UK’s pioneer in ethical home care. Mr. Padron received the honour again with respect to the year 2016.

Mr. Padron has appeared on various radio and TV news outlets including Sky News, BBC Radio 4 World Tonight, BBC Radio 4 TodayBBC Radio London Breakfast, the BBC Two’s Victoria Derbyshire, and BBC Radio 4 You and Yours.

Mr. Padron has participated in numerous efforts to help improve and reform the UK’s health and social care sector, exemplifying the wise words of Robert Phillips of Jericho Chambers: “The more trusted organisation of the future looks more like a social movement than a traditional hierarchy. Leaders – business and civic – need to think and behave like social activists. “

In January 2017, Mr. Padron joined 74 other British leaders in calling for the Prime Minister to set up a cross-party process to address the UK’s unprecedented crisis in its health and social care system. In March 2016, Mr. Padron presented to the House of Commons Women and Equalities Committee on methods to improve the working conditions of home care workers – a predominately female profession.

In August 2015, Mr. Padron hosted a research delegation from the Japanese Government, demonstrating the international nature of the OECD’s ageing crisis. In March 2014, Mr. Padron contributed to Baroness Denise Kingsmill’s review into the home care sector. In January 2014, in an industry changing action, Mr. Padron worked successfully with Margaret Hodge MP in improving enforcement of the national minimum wage in the home care sector. In October 2013, Mr. Padron led Penrose Care to being the UK’s first independent sector home care provider to agree to comply with a concrete ethical charter for social care organisations established by Citizens UK, the UK’s most prominent civil society organisation.

Mr. Padron holds a BA in Economics from UC Berkeley and a Master in Economics & Finance from the Universidad de Navarra. Mr. Padron also holds a QCF Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care and Children and Young People’s Services (Adults’ Management) (England) From Edexcel and a Higher Level Apprenticeship in General Adult Social Care from the Federation for Industry Sector Skills & Standards.

Mr. Padron is an avid animal lover and enjoys taking his pet parrot out for walks in north west London.

María Tovar Lezáun, RN
Care Manager

MaríaMs. Tovar is a registered nurse in the UK and Spain. She joined Penrose Care from Beis Rochel Nursing Home (Agudas Israel Housing Association) of London where she worked as a nurse during the summer of 2012. Prior to her UK-based career, she worked as a nurse in the Psychiatric Unit of the Clínica Universidad de Navarra (2009-2012), the best private hospital in Spain. Ms. Tovar works concurrently as a practicing nurse at the prestigious Harley Clinic.

Ms. Tovar holds a degree in nursing from the Universidad de Navarra. Ms. Tovar enjoys horse riding, sports, and reading.

Dr. Matthew J. Knight, MBBS, BSc (hons), MRCP (Lond)
Co-founder & Non-Executive Director

2017-02 (Matthew Knight) Low resolution photoDr. Knight is a practicing physician and works as a Respiratory Consultant at West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust, following several years at the Royal Free Hospital, and the Chest Clinic, Northwood. In addition to his work as a physician, he has spent many years engaged in voluntary work for young adults in north London and has helped with fundraising in Kenya and in India.

Dr. Knight holds a BSc (hons) in Neurosciences and MBBS (merit) in Medicine from the University College London. He holds the Diploma in Internal Medicine from the Royal College of Physicians, London, and holds full membership of the Royal College. He has sat on the national trainees committee of the Royal College of Physicians from 2011. Since 1999, he has lived in the Hampstead area of north west London.

Rabbi Markus. A. Lange, MA
Non-Executive Director

Rabbi Lange is currently member of the Chaplaincy Team at the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust as well as Honorary Chaplain at the North London Hospice. In his role as Chaplain he provides Spiritual, Pastoral and Religious Care to all patients, families, staff and volunteers in an open and inclusive way. He is also a practicing Drama & Movement Therapist specialised in working with children in mainstream and special needs schools. Further, he offers reflective clinical and pastoral supervision and interactive training workshops to chaplains as well as to healthcare professionals and volunteers. His areas of clinical expertise are Hospice / End-of-Life Care, Palliative Care, Bereavement Care, Care of the Elderly, Dementia Care, Special Needs and Learning Difficulties.

Prior to this, he has been the Chaplain / Spiritual & Religious Care Lead at the Marie Curie Hospice Hampstead from 2010 to 2014. From 2013-2016, he was Vice-President of the Association of Hospice and Palliative Care Chaplains. In 2013 he founded the Children’s Hospice Spiritual Care Network and convenes this multi-professional group for experiential workshop days once or twice a year.

Rabbi Lange holds an MA in Drama & Movement Therapy (2016) from the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama and an MA in Jewish Studies (2009) from King’s College London. He received his BA in Hebrew & Jewish Studies (2003) from the Leo Baeck College, London. Additionally, he is a certified Playback Theatre (2016) as well as Bibliodrama (2014) practitioner and was granted a diploma in Creative Approaches to Supervision (2013) by the London Centre for Psychodrama. He received his rabbinic training in New York and London (2003-2010). Prior to that, he has studied and worked in Prague, Berlin and London.
